Criteria for installing the NORTON-1000-OIL mechanism on your gate
- It can be installed on a gate leaf with a maximum weight of 1000kg.
- It can be used up to 50 times continuously.
- It can be used up to 150 times per day.
A gate weight of 1000kg is a fairly high limit, assuming that the average weight of sliding gates is usually 60-70kg/m. However, if the gate's weight is unknown, it's best to consult the manufacturer. From our experience, the above mechanism covers most sliding gate cases.
The 50 consecutive uses cover most apartment building situations, as even during peak hours, it's difficult to exceed this limit. The motor has thermal protection. This means that if usage is exceeded and it overheats, movement is interrupted until the normal temperature is restored. It's logical that shorter gates in a cold environment can perform more cycles than larger gates in a hot environment. If the motor stops due to overheating, the gate must be operated manually.
The daily uses can, for example, cover over 35 cars using it 4 times per day. These uses (compared to hourly uses) are the optimal operation for the mechanism to last many years without problems.
Advantages of the NORTON-1000-OIL (kit-Standard) automation set

- The NORTON-1000-OIL mechanism is designed for intensive use. It can be installed in apartment buildings or commercial spaces with heavy traffic.
- Ideal for heavy gates.
- Reliable, practically maintenance-free.
- Quiet during operation.
- Competitive price for an oil bath mechanism.
- Easy installation even for those not experienced in automation.
- Easy disengagement in case of power failure.
- Convenient mechanism dimensions:

The mechanism features special oil (gear oil) in which the motor's reducer and windings are immersed. This achieves excellent lubrication and cooling.
Sliding gate with mechanism - Features

A classic sliding gate arrangement with a mechanism naturally includes the gate leaf, which has wheels at its bottom. The wheels must be well-maintained to ensure the gate and mechanism move smoothly.
The rail, on which the wheels move, is securely fixed to the ground. The rail must be straight, without bulges or deformations.
The gate leaf is held upright by rollers. The rollers are positioned to always be in contact with the gate from the fully open to the fully closed position. They must be stable and not allow the gate to deviate from its path, but also not hinder its movement. They are placed at the top of the gate, in the middle of its travel.
The last accessories (for a gate without a mechanism) are the mechanical stops. The stops define the gate's travel, i.e., its final position for both opening and closing.
To automate a gate leaf, we install a metal (or plastic) rack. The rack is a toothed bar that works with the motor's gear to transmit motion.
The motor is placed in the center of the gate's travel to always be in contact with the gate. It has a gear that transmits motion from the mechanism to the gate via the rack.
Beyond the mechanism, an essential accessory for the safety of the entire construction are the safety photocells. Safety photocells are placed on either side of the opening and check for obstacles in the gate's path. If an obstacle is detected during the gate's closing, the photocells signal the mechanism's control panel, and the gate's closing stops.
Also, for even greater safety, a safety flashing light could be installed, which provides a visual signal when the gate is in operation. This is usually installed when the gate is adjacent to busy roads, roads with heavy traffic, and in areas where visibility is limited.
Finally, in cases where the remote controls' range is not desirable, an external antenna can be installed to boost the signal.
Metal rack
The metal rack is delivered in one-meter pieces. It is galvanized for greater resistance to outdoor conditions. The rack's cross-section is 12x30mm, the diametral pitch is 4 (module 4), and it has 3 spacers per piece. It can be installed on gate leaves with a maximum weight of 2 tons.

A key point of attention is the clearance that must exist between the gear and the rack. Ideally, this clearance should be 1.5mm.

If this clearance does not exist, the mechanism is forced to carry the gate along its entire path instead of simply pushing it. This will cause wear and tear, and sooner or later, problems will arise in its operation. Its installation is done by welding it onto the gate.
Conversely, if the clearance is too large, the cooperation between the gear and the rack will not be correct, and jerks and stresses will be created on the motor. Therefore, special attention is required to create this clearance.
Metal gear of NORTON-1000-OIL sliding mechanism

The metal gear reliably transmits motion from the mechanism to the garage door via the rack. It has protection to prevent accidents and the trapping of objects between the gear and the rack.
Autotech S5060T control panel for sliding garage door mechanisms

The Autotech S5060T control panel is included in the set and is integrated into the mechanism. It is a control panel that combines simplicity of use with all necessary functions and has been time-tested. It pairs perfectly with the NORTON-1000-OIL mechanism.
Technical specifications:
- It has a socket for the mechanism's limit switches.
- We can adjust the mechanism's force.
- There is the option for soft start and stop for less wear and tear on the mechanism and garage door.
- It accepts safety photocells that interrupt movement when they detect an obstacle during the gate's closing and start the reverse movement (opening).
- There is an available setting for automatic gate closing with the user's choice of closing start time. Photocell use is essential for automatic closing to function.
- There is the option of electric braking.
- The opening direction is adjusted with a microswitch.
- The panel can accept a push-button (keypad or simple push-button).
- The panel can accept a 230VAC warning light without a flasher or a 230VAC lighting lamp.
- It has an integrated receiver with simple operation.
- User information regarding the mechanism's functions is provided by LED lights.
The above control panel has been tested by thousands of users and has proven to be extremely reliable. In addition, it has features such as adjusting the mechanism's force, slow start and stop, which make it one of the best choices on the market today.
Operation of sliding gate photocells
Photocells are a product that significantly increases safety in the use of the sliding mechanism at minimal cost. These particular photocells (IR5001P) are extremely reliable and operate with 12-24 VDC or 12-24 VAC, making them compatible with most control panels on the market. They have been on the market for years and do not present problems. They require no maintenance and are quite reliable even in difficult weather conditions.

Photocell operation: The transmitter emits an infrared light beam, in the non-visible spectrum, which is directed towards the receiver. When there is no obstacle interrupting the beam, the gate operates normally. When the beam is interrupted by an obstacle (vehicle, pedestrian, pet, etc.) during the gate's closing, the control panel instructs the mechanism to stop closing the gate and begin the reverse movement (opening). If the beam is interrupted while the gate is opening, it continues its course normally, while if it is open, it is not allowed to start closing.
An alternative to wired photocells is the installation of photocells with a reflector. These photocells do not require wiring from both sides of the gate, making them easier to install. They are preferred in cases where the gate and surrounding area have been completed without provision for wiring. They have a small additional cost compared to wired photocells but are a very good solution when wiring cannot be run.
ProfelmNet PSD-36T remote controls at 433.92 MHz.
The ProfelmNet PSD-36T remote controls have an excellent design and are easy and simple to use and program. They have been tested by thousands of users and do not present problems. They can accept up to four commands from different mechanisms, making them convenient for users who have more than one automation in their daily use.

Sliding mechanism installation procedure - Summary
In brief, the steps for installing a sliding gate mechanism are as follows:
- Check that the gate operates smoothly manually.
- Check for existing wiring or install new wiring.
- After checks, proceed with the motor base installation. A stable foundation is required. Usually, a reinforced concrete base is the appropriate solution.
- Mount the motor onto the base.
- Install the rack.
- Install accessories (if any).
- Check for proper operation of the setup and explain all details for safe use to the users.
The above are simply a summary of the steps for installing a sliding mechanism. Inside the mechanism's packaging, you will find detailed, step-by-step instructions, well-written and easy to follow.
