Criteria for installing the NORTON-2000-OIL mechanism on your gate

The NORTON-2000-OIL mechanism is reliable and tested in the Greek market. It has capabilities that cover most sliding gate cases. Specifically:
    • It can be installed on a gate leaf with a maximum weight of 2000kg.
    • It can be used up to 50 consecutive times.
    • It can be used up to 150 times per day.

2000kg for a gate is a fairly high limit, assuming that the average weight of sliding gates is usually 60-70kg/m. However, if the gate's weight is unknown, it is advisable to ask the manufacturer. In our experience, the above mechanism covers most cases of sliding gates.

The 50 continuous uses cover most cases of apartment buildings, since even at peak hours it is difficult to exceed this limit. The motor has thermal protection. This means that if the usage is exceeded and it overheats, movement is interrupted until the normal temperature is restored. It is logical that shorter gates in a cold environment can perform more cycles than longer gates in a warm environment. If the motor stops due to overheating, the gate must be operated manually.

The daily uses can cover, for example, over 35 cars that will use it 4 times per day. These uses (compared to hourly uses) are the optimal operation for the mechanism to last for many years without problems.

The mechanism has special oil (gear oil) in which the motor's gearbox and windings are immersed. This achieves excellent lubrication and cooling.

Sliding garage door with mechanism - Features

characteristics of a sliding gate with mechanism

A classic sliding gate arrangement with a mechanism naturally includes the gate leaf which has wheels at its bottom. The wheels must be well maintained to avoid hindering the movement of the gate and the mechanism.

The track, on which the wheels move, is firmly secured to the ground. The track must be straight without bumps or deformations.

The gate leaf is held upright by the rollers. The rollers are positioned so that they are always in contact with the gate from the fully open to the fully closed position. They must be stable and not allow the gate to deviate from its path, but without hindering its movement. They are placed at the top of the gate and in the middle of its travel.

The last accessories (for a gate without a mechanism) are the mechanical stops of the gate. The stops define the gate's travel, i.e., the final position of the gate both when opening and closing.

To automate a gate leaf, we install a metal (or plastic) rack. The rack is a toothed bar that works with the motor's pinion to transmit movement.

The motor is placed in the center of the gate's travel so that it is always in contact with the gate. It has a pinion that transmits movement from the mechanism to the gate via the rack.

Beyond the mechanism, essential accessories for the safety of the entire construction are the safety photocells. The safety photocells are placed on either side of the opening and check for obstacles in the gate's path. If an obstacle is detected during the gate's closing, the photocells signal the mechanism's control panel, and the gate's closing stops.

Also, for even greater safety, a safety flashing light could be installed, which gives a visual signal when the gate is in operation. It is usually installed when the gate is adjacent to busy roads, roads with heavy traffic, and in areas where visibility is limited.

Finally, in cases where the range of the remote controls is not desired, an external antenna can be installed to amplify the signal.

Metal gear of NORTON-2000-OIL sliding mechanism

    norton metal gear

The metal gear reliably transmits movement from the mechanism to the garage door via the rack. It has protection to prevent accidents and the entrapment of objects between the gear and the rack.

Autotech S5060T control panel for sliding gate mechanisms

    control panel for sliding mechanisms

The Autotech S5060T control unit is included in the set and is integrated into the mechanism. It is a control unit that combines simplicity of use with all the necessary functions and has been tested over time. It works perfectly with the NORTON-2000-OIL mechanism.

    Technical characteristics:

    • It has a socket for the mechanism's limit switches
    • We can adjust the mechanism's force.
    • There is the possibility for soft start and stop for less wear and tear on the mechanism and the garage door.
    • It accepts safety photocells which interrupt movement when they find an obstacle during door closing and start reverse movement (opening).
    • There is an available setting for automatic door closing with user-selectable closing start time. The use of photocells is necessary for the automatic closing function.
    • There is an option for electric braking.
    • The opening direction is adjusted with a microswitch.
    • The panel can accept a push button (keypad or simple push button).
    • The panel can accept a 230VAC warning light without a flasher or a 230VAC lighting lamp.
    • It has a built-in receiver with simple operation.
    • User information regarding the mechanism's functions is provided by LED lights.

The above control unit has been tested by thousands of users and has proven to be extremely reliable. In addition, it has features such as adjusting the mechanism's force, slow start and stop, which make it one of the best choices on the market today.

Sliding mechanism installation procedure - Briefly

In brief, the steps for installing a sliding garage door mechanism are as follows:

    • Checking that the door operates smoothly manually.
    • Checking existing wiring or laying new wiring.
    • After checks, the motor base is installed. A stable foundation is required. Usually, a reinforced concrete base is the appropriate solution.
    • Mounting the motor on the base.
    • Installing the rack.
    • Installation of accessories (if any)
    • Checking the good operation of the construction and explaining all details to users for safe use.

The above are simply the brief steps for installing a sliding mechanism. Inside the mechanism's packaging, you will find detailed instructions, step-by-step, well-written and easy to follow.
